House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. has led a foolhardy charge into an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump — and it has Democrats very worried.
And one Democrat, Rep. Jeff Van Drew, D-N.J., confessed on camera that Pelosi’s impeachment drive was a mistake that would only help Republicans.
In an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Van Drew admitted the obvious: He’s very worried about his party’s chances in the 2020 election.
“I’m afraid that all we’re going to have is a failed impeachment,” he told Carlson.
Van Drew iss among the many moderate Democrats who have seen the writing on the wall — the American people don’t want a political circus.
And they’re going to punish Democrats in Congress in the next election.
When Congress isn’t working, nobody wins.
“I really believe the more that we delve into this, the more time we spend on it, especially at a macro level, the more we’re not going to be able to spend time on these other issues that are important,” Van Drew said.
“The problem is, when we’re this divided, when we’re this split, there’s two political parties, and this is all going on, people aren’t going to work together.”
He’s not wrong. With the decision to dive into impeachment, liberals are forever altering how lawmakers treat each other for the rest of the Trump presidency… and beyond.
Politics is about to get even nastier — and voters are sick of it.
“Maybe there are those that want to punish the president or make a point,” Van Drew said, “and I understand that. But the bottom line is, he’s still going to be the President of the United States…”
“Why don’t we let the people do the impeachment by voting in the electoral process the way that we usually do?”
