Gov. Maura Healey, D-Mass., was speaking at a fundraiser Saturday on Nantucket island, near the ritzy Cape Cod.
Then, Healey saw her speech interrupted by far-Left activists unhappy with her leadership. She fended off some brutal heckling from Climate Defiance, described as “brand-new, youth-led group using direct action to resist fossil fuels.”

At first, the governor was engaging with the activists. She asked one of them, “What’s your name?”
“My name is Matt,” he said. “I’m 20 years old, and you’re throwing away my future… We’re in the midst of a climate emergency.”
From there, another person said, “No new fossil fuels!… The fossil fuel industry bought you out. The fossil fuel industry gave you $50,000.”
Some audience members then joined a crowd to heckle Healey for her refusal to ban fossil fuels. They started chanting, “End fossil fuels, Maura! End fossil fuels!”
Evidently, these activists are on a first-name basis with the governor.
“We’ve spoken to her before. She’s ignored us,” another activist said. “We’re afraid, because our lives are going to end… We have no money. Maura has power, and she can help save us, but she’s not… We’re going to die. Who cares how rude we are?”
One of Healey’s associates told the activists, “You have no idea how to get things done.”
“You’re hurting your cause,” another Healey associate said. “I’ve been a climate activist for longer than you’ve been alive.”
The crowd has defended its decision to crash Healey’s event.
“We mobilized on Nantucket Island, where she spent her afternoon mingling with millionaires. We asked her to ban new fossil fuel projects. She refused. So we ended the whole event. We made her flee. We did not apologize. Our lives our on the line. We are in an emergency. We act like it,” the group wrote on its website. “We just SHUT DOWN a fundraiser by Massachussetts Governor Maura Healey.”

The group is also crowdsourcing donations to a fund called “Climate Defiance Fund to Make Climate Cowards Lives [F**king] Hell.” They’ve raised $29,550 so far.
“Last week we interrupted Vice President Kamala Harris,” the group bragged on its website. “Unable to address our concerns, she just laughed. We pleaded for her to take bold action in honor of the 96 people who just died in fires in Hawaii. And she just stood there smiling.”
The group considers media attention a sign of victory.
“This is working,” they claimed online. “Our twitter account reached 10 million impressions. Organically. In the last month alone. Today the New York Times wrote about us. In print. In the A-section.”
Earlier this year, Healey succeeded the state’s Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, and she gave the Massachusetts Democrats a “trifecta”: simultaneous control of the governor’s mansion, the state House, and the state Senate.
