Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., received fawning media coverage last year for becoming the youngest sitting member of Congress.
But Frost isn’t getting the same kind of coverage after his latest publicity stunt.
Frost said on the House floor that Congress should have the Statue of Liberty torn down if they’re serious about border security.
In Frost’s view, conservatives are hypocrites for promoting border security while also… declining to remove the Statue of Liberty.
“To my colleagues from the other side of the aisle, let’s be honest with immigrants who deserve better than what you’re offering them. Don’t welcome immigrants if you plan to reject them. If you keep pushing your bigoted H.R. 2 bill, then also pass this bill. I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you. It removes the Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that tells people to come here,” Frost, 27, told Congress.
“This is who you are, removing the fabric of America. So, I want to know which Republican, who supports and voted for H.R.2, will introduce this bill… If you’re gonna support H.R.2 and these bigoted measures, the least you can do is not be a d**n liar.”
H.R. 2 is also known as the Secure the Border Act. Among other things, the bill would deny asylum to anyone eligible for asylum in another country.
In that regard, the bill looks very, very similar to President Joe Biden’s policy of requiring people to apply for asylum in another country while on their way to the U.S.
The Secure the Border Act would also “resume all activities related to constructing a wall… planned prior to January 20, 2021.”
The bill passed the House in May. However, even this half-measure, consensus-seeking bill has become stalled in the Democrat-controlled Senate.
Take a look at Frost’s moment that went viral… for all the wrong reasons.

Frost was slammed by conservative critics.
“Democrats can’t decide if they want to topple statues or have them make our laws for us,” writer Ryan James Girdusky tweeted Wednesday.
Mark Hemingway of RealClearInvestigations tweeted, “There’s only one party in this country that wants to tear down statues, and it’s not Republicans.”
In the past, other Democrats — like Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth — have expressed openness to removing statues of civic leaders like George Washington. “I think we should listen to the argument there,” Duckworth told CNN’s Dana Bash in 2020, after a question about calls to remove statues of Washington.
Given these remarks by his Democrat colleagues, Frost should have observed Poe’s Law. Some views are just impossible to state ironically.
