NBC News star Savannah Guthrie from the “Today” show released heartbreaking information Monday that her mother is missing somewhere in Arizona.
She asked the public for help finding her “dear mom.”
Authorities in Arizona are conducting a search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, who was reported missing Sunday under mysterious circumstances.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday evening at her residence north of Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. A family member contacted authorities around noon Sunday to report her missing.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos held a news conference late Sunday evening where he confirmed the missing woman is Savannah Guthrie’s mother and revealed disturbing details about the case. Nanos said the scene at Nancy Guthrie’s home raised serious red flags for investigators.
“We’re pretty much just throwing everything at this that we can. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health, and so naturally that’s a great concern,” Nanos told reporters.
“This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” Nanos said. “And so we’ll just continue. The detective’s homicide team is out right now looking at the scene as well.”
“This one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we found and located just in looking at the scene,” Nanos said. He declined to provide specific details about what investigators found.
Nancy Guthrie is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Her family last saw her at home around 9:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Saturday. It is unknown what clothing she was wearing when she disappeared.
Despite her physical health challenges, Nanos confirmed that Nancy Guthrie has “no cognitive issues” and is “very alert” and “very sound of mind,” but has limited mobility.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” Guthrie’s statement said.
“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s department at: 520-351-4900,” it continued.
