A former National Guard soldier has come forward with allegations that Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz stole a classified nuclear manual during his service in the mid-1990s — a stunning development that could shake up the 2024 presidential race .
The accusation, which Walz’s campaign has yet to address, has sparked calls for a federal investigation.
The whistleblower, who reportedly served alongside Walz in the Nebraska National Guard and wishes to remain anonymous due to fears of retaliation, told Alpha News that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual for the M109A5 self-propelled howitzer went missing in September 1995.
The unit’s artillery piece had just been upgraded with the capability to fire nuclear shells at the time the manual allegedly disappeared, making the manual highly sensitive.
According to the source, Walz had recently returned from a trip to China when the manual disappeared.
“He was often the only one there with access to the building where it was stored,” the former soldier stated. The manual was allegedly returned anonymously some time later, with no explanation given for its absence.
The timing of the incident has raised eyebrows, as it coincided with China’s development of a similar howitzer, the PLZ-05.
Military experts have noted striking similarities between the two weapons systems, including longer barrels with wider firing ranges and advanced digital fire control systems.
Adding to the controversy, the whistleblower claims that the theft went unreported at the time due to internal frustrations with Walz’s performance in the unit.
“He was double-dipping, holding a full-time teaching job while expected to serve full-time with us,” the source explained. “Many key duties were neglected.”
Numerous allegations of Walz’ connections to China have caught the attention of Congress.
Rep. James Comer, R-K.Y., chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, had previously requested FBI documents concerning Walz’s connections to Chinese Communist Party-affiliated entities.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-F.L., had gone further, accusing Walz of being a Chinese asset and “an example of how Beijing patiently grooms future American leaders.”
The new National Guard whistleblower claims put Walz’s extensive ties to China under renewed scrutiny.
Reports claim Walz made approximately 30 trips to the country as a teacher and congressman, founded a company taking students on summer trips to China, and served as a visiting fellow at a state-run Chinese university as recently as 2007.
The vice presidential candidate’s campaign has not responded to multiple requests for comment on these allegations.
However, they previously stated that “Governor Walz has stood up to the CCP, fought for human rights and democracy, and always put American jobs and manufacturing first.”
The National Guard whistleblower has reportedly expressed willingness to cooperate with an FBI investigation.
