TikTok, the popular social media platform, announced on Tuesday that it has taken measures to prevent a cyberattack targeting high-profile accounts, including the account of news organization CNN.
The attack has raised concerns about the security of user accounts on the platform and the potential for malicious actors to gain unauthorized access.
Jason Grosse, a spokesperson for TikTok, stated in a prepared statement, “Our security team was recently alerted to malicious actors targeting CNN’s TikTok account.” He further explained that TikTok has been collaborating with CNN to restore access to the account and implement “enhanced security measures” to protect it from future attacks.
Grosse emphasized TikTok’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the platform, saying, “We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the platform and will continue to monitor for any further inauthentic activity.” This statement underscores the company’s efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for its users.
CNN has yet to publicly comment on the incident, and details about the nature of the hack remain limited. TikTok revealed that the attack occurred through the platform’s direct-messaging feature but did not disclose any further information about the specific exploit used by the attackers.
According to Grosse, TikTok is actively investigating the “potential exploit” and working with affected account owners to restore their access to the platform. While the company did not disclose the total number of accounts targeted in the attack, it noted that only “a very small number of accounts were compromised.”
In addition to CNN, TikTok mentioned that the account of socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton was also targeted in the attack, but fortunately, her account was not compromised.
The incident serves as a reminder that even high-profile accounts are not immune to cyberattacks and that constant vigilance is necessary to protect personal information and maintain the integrity of social media platforms.
