Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, announced his first step into the big leagues of golf on Monday.
The younger Woods has committed to play collegiate golf at Florida State University, joining the Seminoles’ 2027 recruiting class.
Woods, who turned 17 on Monday, announced the commitment on Instagram with a simple message: “Go Noles!”
The decision is far similar from his father’s path to the pros. Tiger Woods played two seasons at Stanford before turning professional in August 1996. Charlie’s older sister, Sam Woods, currently attends Stanford as a freshman.
Charlie Woods is a junior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, where he has emerged as one of the nation’s top young golfers. He currently ranks 21st in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings after a remarkable rise over the past year.
Woods was previously ranked 604th in the AJGA before capturing his first victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational last May. He won the tournament decisively, immediately vaulting him into the national spotlight.
The young golfer has since continued to build an impressive resume. He tied for ninth at the Boys Junior PGA Championship in July and followed with a tie for 18th at the Rolex Tournament of Champions in November. Woods also helped lead his school to a Florida High School Athletic Association Class A state championship in November, carding a 4-under 68 in the final round.
In August, Woods drilled a hole-in-one on the third hole at TPC Sawgrass during junior tournament play.
Woods has spent years playing alongside his father in the PNC Championship, a family tournament where major champions team with family members. The father-son duo competed together from 2020 to 2024, finishing second in both 2021 and 2024. Charlie recorded his first hole-in-one during the 2024 event.
Tiger Woods talked about the recruiting process in December, noting how different it has become in the last few decades.
“It’s been very different, the recruiting process,” Tiger Woods said. “Now, you have cellphones. We didn’t have cellphones. We would have written letters that would show up in the mailbox. It’s just very different how fast coaches can communicate with the family members and the player that they’re trying to recruit. It’s just a different world. Not saying it’s good or bad. It’s just different.”

The Seminoles have recently established themselves as a national powerhouse. Florida State finished as runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Championships, led by Luke Clanton, who was a finalist for both the Fred Haskins Award and Jack Nicklaus Award, which recognize the top collegiate golfer in the country.
Jones has already secured another major recruiting victory for the 2027 class. Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who ranks No. 1 in the Rolex AJGA rankings, has also committed to the Seminoles.
