Golf icon Tiger Woods is kicking off 2024 with a fresh look this week at the Genesis Invitational, which he will host. Despite his new mystery sponsor, his signature Sunday red won’t change.
Woods ended his 27-year partnership with Nike apparel last December. He then teased an impending reveal in social media posts. “The vision remains the same,” he said in one.
His agent promised “an exciting announcement” at a press conference Monday.
According to some speculation, Woods will now wear TaylorMade gear, having already used their clubs for years. Filings at the U.S. Patent Office hint at a line called “SDR” or “Sunday Red,” nodding to the power color his mom told him to wear.
“Whatever the new look, it won’t be visible as it once was,” Associated Press golf reporter Doug Ferguson wrote.
The golfer returned to action at December’s unofficial Hero World Challenge event, his first since last April’s Masters. He’d withdrawn on Sunday morning there while recovering from severe leg injuries from a 2021 car crash. He’s still suffering from mobility issues.
That crash had ignited worries that the legend may never play again, but Woods made a remarkable comeback a year later at Augusta in 2022.
Woods is still facing limitations after recent injuries, but his iconic bold red shirts persist in tournaments’ final rounds.
Woods’s playing time and stamina remain uncertain. However, symbols like his sponsors and his Sunday red are signaling continuity… and his drive persists to defy odds and keep chasing records.
