A very observant Republican on Twitter noticed something odd about the home of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris jumped on a video call from her home at One Observatory Circle, the official residence for U.S. vice presidents. She was talking to her webcam from in front of a bookshelf, but the bookshelf appeared to be empty.

Twitter user @MidnightMitch pointed out the empty shelf and said, “She’s not planning on staying there long.”
@MidnightMitch was replying to a tweet by the blogger Stephen L. Miller. Miller was asked to predict the short-term future of the Biden administration, and he tweeted a photo of a dying elderly man, next to a photo of Harris taking the oath of office.
Stephen L. Miller is an anti-Trump blogger known for his commentary on media bias. He is often confused with a former Trump advisor who is also named Stephen Miller. However, the two of them are not related.
The implication is obvious. @MidnightMitch suggested that Harris was planning to move into the White House, usurping the role of President Joe Biden.
One can’t assume that just from a picture of an empty bookshelf, Kamala Harris made any concrete plans to usurp Biden as president.

However, the photo of Harris’s empty bookshelf raises other concerns.
How much time does Harris spend away from Washington? Is she in Washington often enough to govern effectively, or does she spend too much time at her other homes?
As of January 2021, Harris keeps three homes — not including One Observatory Circle.
She owns a condominium in Washington’s West End, a house in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, and a loft in San Francisco’s SoMa (South of Market) neighborhood, home to the headquarters of Uber, Airbnb, and Salesforce.
Harris paid $2.264 million for the two condos, and her Los Angeles residence is now worth nearly $5 million, according to Zillow.
It’s no wonder that Harris hasn’t decorated her vice-presidential residence!
