The massive surge of illegal immigrants across the southern border on President Joe Biden’s watch has been described as a “predictable crisis,” an “emergency,” even an “unmitigated disaster.”
It’s also a crime of historic proportions—and its getting worse. About 80,000 illegal aliens crossed the border in January 2021 alone — twice as many as in January 2020.
The problem deepened in February 2021, when another 96,974 illegals came to America — triple the number of border crossings compared to last year in the same month.
Now, the Biden administration admits its open door policies are about to cause more illegal immigrants to come to America this year than in the past two decades.
“We are on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years,” said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday.
The situation is so bad that Republican lawmakers toured El Paso to see the damage personally — and what they saw shocked them.
“It’s worse than a crisis,” said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who would be next in line to be Speaker of the House if Republicans win the 2022 midterms. “This is really a human heartbreak.”
“There are one-, three-, five-year-olds holding hands … How many children didn’t make it?” he asked. “Even though the U.S. Congress just passed a $1.9 trillion bill, not $1 in there to help them.” Already, the number of people attempting to come into the country with no legal authorization is “the highest since 2006” and “far worse than any February under either the Obama or Trump administrations,” according to Steven Kopits of Princeton Policy Advisers, which predicted the surge.
What’s bringing so many people to the border now? Foreigners know that border patrol agents are expelling adults and families. They know unaccompanied minors end up in cages. What’s making so many take the long, expensive, and potentially deadly trip?
An illegal immigrant explained the reason for the border crisis to the New York Times in three words. “Biden promised us.”
“Biden promised us that everything was going to change,” illegal immigrant Gladys Oneida Pérez Cruz told the newspaper. “He hasn’t done it yet, but he is going to be a good president for (illegal) migrants.”
Biden’s campaign promises of open borders and generous welfare were so convincing that Cruz — and tens of thousands of others — paid human smugglers, known as “coyotes,” $9,000 for the chance to get to the border.
The illegals took Biden at his word that he would give them a new life in the Promised Land.
Waves of young illegals wore t-shirts with what looked like Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign logo.
They said, “BIDEN! PLEASE LET US IN!”
Many of the people coming are ill, hoping to cash in on the free healthcare that Biden pledged for the whole world during his 2020 campaign. Some 218 illegal immigrants in Brownsville, Texas, tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday night.
Things are so bad that Biden has called in FEMA — the federal agency that deals with aid to those afflicted by natural disasters — to tend to the exploding crisis along the Rio Grande.
“Everywhere in the world right now the signal is out that the U.S. is a welcome mat, that President Biden would love for you to come stay,” said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
“Biden promised us!” wailed another woman.

Experts say you can chalk the whole immigration problem — the surge, the humanitarian crisis, the caging of kids — to Joe Biden’s policies.
“The border problem will continue to worsen as long as the current catch-and-boot regime lasts,” said Kopits.
And he didn’t buy the idea “that the Biden administration has been caught unawares.”
“These issues should not have been novel or unexpected for President Biden,” he said.
Nobody can doubt the severity of the border crisis — even if White House spokesperson Jen Psaki refuses to use that word. “Unless action is taken to stem the flow of migrants across the border that Category 5 hurricane is going to break the entire system,” said Sen. John Cornyn of Texas.
Gingrich predicted a record-breaking number of illegal immigrants “in the neighborhood of 6 to 15 million people” during the Biden-Harris administration.
“This is going to be extraordinarily expensive,” he said. “And it’s going to shake, I think, the fabric of American society.”
Then again, if you wanted to “fundamentally transform” America, provoking a border crisis would be the best place to start.
