As of Wednesday, a whistleblower has told two congressmen that the F.B.I. has evidence of a bribery scheme involving Joe Biden during his days as vice president. The whistleblower implied that Biden took money from a foreign national in exchange for certain policy preferences.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, had something to say about it. Cruz addressed the possibility of impeachment during a Wednesday appearance on Fox News.

“The detailed evidence that’s growing,” Cruz mentioned to Fox News commentator Sean Hannity. “I gotta say, the evidence, not only against Hunter Biden, but the evidence against Joe Biden being complicit and profiting from this corruption is growing, and growing, and growing.”
Hannity asked about the potential for impeachment. Hannity asked, “That would be a high crime and misdemeanor, wouldn’t it, senator?”
“It absolutely would,” Cruz said. “In fact, it doesn’t have to be a high crime or misdemeanor, because the Constitution specifies that impeachment lies for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Bribery is explicitly noted in the Constitution.”
Regarding impeachment, the Constitution says, “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
Rep. Russell Fry, R-S.C., echoed Cruz’s predictions about impeachment. Fry went on Fox Business News to call impeachment a “very strong possibility.”

Last year, Cruz spoke about the possibility of impeachment on his podcast, “Verdict.”
“Yeah, I do think there’s a chance of that,” Cruz reportedly said at the time.
“And whether it’s justified or not, as we talked about when ‘Verdict’ launched, the Democrats weaponized impeachment. They used it for partisan purposes to go after Trump because they disagreed with him. And one of the real disadvantages of doing that . . . is the more you weaponize it and turn it into a partisan cudgel, you know, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

The whistleblower reportedly spoke to two congressional Republicans: Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Oversight Committee Chair Rep. James Comer of Kentucky.
The two congressmen discussed the allegations in an open letter. Comer even subpoenaed certain documents from the F.B.I.

“We believe the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States,” Grassley said in a statement.
“What we don’t know is what, if anything, the FBI has done to verify these claims or investigate further. The FBI’s recent history of botching politically charged investigations demands close congressional oversight.”
