Sen. Ted Cruz, R-T.X., has made plenty of enemies in Washington, D.C. since he was first elected to represent the Lone State State in 2013.
But it’s one of his former allies that he’s clashed with over recent weeks.
Former House Speaker John Boehner, R-O.H., has spent the last few months promoting his upcoming memoir in the mainstream media — and one of his favorite targets has been Cruz.
In an excerpt released from his upcoming memoir — “On The House: A Washington Memoir” — Boehner called Cruz a “reckless a**hole who thinks he is smarter than everyone else … a lunatic” that “enlisted the crazy caucus of the GOP.”
He didn’t let up this week during an interview on Fox News.
“The guy was always stirring up trouble with some of the knuckleheads in my caucus,” Boehner told Fox News star Bret Baier on Tuesday. “All you will do is cause problems and so, over the years, I’ve just decided: Screw Ted Cruz.”
Cruz hit back over the weekend, calling Boehner unhinged and claimed he was a drunk.
“The Swamp is unhappy,” he said on social media. “I wear with pride his drunken, bloviated scorn. Please don’t cry.”
“I think he was probably recording at nine or ten in the morning. So, obviously, he had too much wine that day already,” Cruz also told The Daily Caller on Saturday.
He also posted a picture of Boehner’s upcoming book inside his fireplace on Tuesday.
Some smart-ass dropped off a copy of Boehner’s new book at my office. It’s even signed!
I filed it in the appropriate place. pic.twitter.com/dQGxofdcCf
