Cobie Smulders has been asked to play Ann Coulter in the series “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” reported Variety on Aug. 5.

Smulders is known for her role as Robin on the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” and for her recurring role in the “Avengers” franchise.

According to Variety, she will replace Betty Gilpin, who left the cast due to scheduling conflicts caused by the pandemic.

“Impeachment” will mark the third season of the anthology series “American Crime Story.”

According to Variety, the new season will cover the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and it will be based on the book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President” by the legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin.

Clive Owen will be playing Bill Clinton, and Edie Falco, who starred in “The Sopranos,” will be playing Hillary Clinton.

A teaser trailer was released on Aug. 4.
