Mike Tyson has starred down heavyweight champions and boxing’s best — but on Tuesday at a rooftop comedy club in Los Angeles, Tyson was challenged to a fight by a stranger.
And the increasingly aggravated man later pulled out a gun just fifteen feet from the former boxing champion.
But video of the incident shows Tyson didn’t flinch or run. Instead, he worked to deescalate the situation.
No one was hurt.
The video shows “Iron Mike” sitting at the front table at the comedy club when a strange interrupts the show and begins to talk to Tyson.
According to TMZ, the man was challenging Tyson to a fistfight to elevate his “status” and prove he was tough. Tyson never engaged back, and eventually a third party — reportedly the host of the show — comes to intervene.
The host tells the would-be challenger to get lost and gives the combative man a shove — and that’s when things went insane.
The stranger is seen pulling out and chambering a round in a pistol and threatens to shoot the host. The crowd reacted with fear and quickly ran for cover.
Everyone but Tyson, that is, who kept his cool and remained in his seat.
The man reportedly quickly regretted his decision to show his pistol and asked Tyson not to call the police, TMZ said. A stoic Tyson listened and later is seen giving the stranger a hug. The Los Angeles Police Department told TMZ they were never called about the incident.
The aggravated man is shown leaving after, and the relieved comedian retakes the stage to thank the boxing hall of fame.
