[Shock video] Passenger plane kills trespasser on Denver airport tarmac

A Frontier Airlines flight struck and killed a person who had wandered onto the runway Friday night after they jumped a perimeter fence at Denver International Airport and wandered directly into the path of a departing jet.

Frontier Flight 4345 was accelerating down the runway for takeoff at approximately 11:00 p.m. when the aircraft struck the person.

The pilot’s call to air traffic control captured the horror of the moment.

“We’re stopping on the runway. We just hit somebody. We have an engine fire,” the pilot told the tower. Moments later he added: “Smoke in the aircraft. We’re going to evacuate on the runway.”

Denver International Airport confirmed the unidentified person had breached the airport’s perimeter fence and was struck just two minutes after entering the property.

The person is not believed to be an airport employee and was pronounced dead at the scene. Airport officials say an inspection of the fence found it intact, but a full perimeter security review is underway.
