Fox News star Sean Hannity is one of President Donald Trump’s biggest supporters on cable news — so his announcement that he was breaking with pro-Trump protesters in Michigan came as a surprise on Monday.
Hannity said armed protestors who were demonstrating against stay-at-home orders in Michigan were hurting, not helping, their cause.
Trump had previously praised the protesters, which made Hannity’s condemnation of their actions surprising.
“I’m the number one supporter on radio and television, that I know of, of the 1st Amendment — and the 2nd Amendment,” Hannity said.”
“Now, no one is a bigger defender of the 2nd Amendment than yours truly. Everyone has the right to protest, protect themselves and try to get the country open. This, with the militia-look here and these long guns? Uh, no,” he said. “Show of force is dangerous. That puts our police at risk.
“And by the way, your message will never be heard, whoever you people are,” the Fox News star continued.
“No one should be attempting to intimidate officials with a show of force,’ he said. “God forbid something happens, then they’re gonna go after all of us law-abiding 2nd Amendment people. I’ve had a carry permit my whole life.”
On Friday, Trump had spoken out in support of the protesters.
He tweeted a message calling on Michigan’s Democratic Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, to “give a little” and “put out the fire.”
The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire. These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Hannity and Trump have disagreed. The two have had back-and-forth disagreements in the past over things like trade policy and health care. They still largely agree on most political issues.
