Scottie Scheffler is the most dominant golfer in the world.
But in a year where he’s won multiple tournaments, including The Masters and The Player’s Championship, many remember something else about the golfer.
His arrest prior to the PGA Championship.
Nobody can forget seeing the world’s no. 1 golfer being handcuffed, placed in a police car, booked, and taking that now infamous mug shot.
All charges against Scheffler were eventually dropped, with the whole ordeal essentially a big “misunderstanding.”
However, one golf fan was able to snag a piece of history from Scheffler’s arrest.
The hat he was wearing when he got out of jail.

Hours after he was arrested in the early morning hours ahead of Friday’s second round, Scheffler was bailed out of jail and was able to make his tee time. Scheffler arrived to the first tee wearing a standard white Nike hat, and after the round, he signed it and apparently donated it to an auction site called BidPal.
And, according to a report from sports media outlet OutKick, Scheffler’s hat – which retails for around $22 – went on to sell for $2,375.
“A unique piece of sports history you won’t find anywhere else! Olympic Gold Medalist Scottie Scheffler autographed hat, which he wore during the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla on May 17, 2024 (a day which is now infamous),” the listing read.
“Also includes a sleeve of three balls each signed by Scottie Scheffler for you to keep for yourself or share with friends.”
According to the listing, certification for the signed hat and golf balls will be provided by Scheffler’s manager.
Though all charges against Scheffler were dropped, he still admitted that it’s something he’ll never be able to forget.
“The charges are dropped, but I still … now it’s almost more appropriate for people to ask me about it,” Scheffler said in an interview in June. “And to be honest with you, it’s not something that I love reliving, just because it was fairly traumatic for me being arrested going into the golf course.
“It was definitely a bit of a relief, but not total relief because that’s something that will always kind of stick with me,” he said. “That mug shot, I’m sure is not going anywhere anytime soon.”
As for the hat?
It is certainly a very unique piece of sports memorabilia. And whoever snagged Scheffler’s jail cell hat is sure to have a juicy conversation starter.
