Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s first public appearance since tumor treatment

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg made her first public appearance Monday.

She was a guest of the University of Buffalo, where she received an honorary law degree. For Ginsburg, the emergence was her first since undergoing a three-week treatment for cancer.

Doctors had found a tumor on Ginsburg’s pancreas — but the scare was short lived, as the court claimed in a statement that the malignant tumor was “definitively treated.”

An official statement read: “… there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in her body. No further treatment is needed at this time.”

Having received the award, she then broke into a Q & A session where liberals fawned over every word she said.

According the the New York Post, Ginsburg touched on many topics, from the late former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, to her biggest influences as a young woman (Amelia Earhart and the fictitious Nancy Drew character of the book series).

Nowadays, given Ginsburg’s appearances and soundbites, it seems as if she’s become more of a celebrity than a Supreme Court judge…

“I am now 86 years old and yet people of all ages want to take their picture with me,” she said. “Amazing.”

“It was beyond my wildest imagination that I would one day become the Notorious RBG,” Ginsburg said. The nickname “Notorious RBG” is a riff on the famous moniker of the late rapper Biggie Smalls, otherwise known as The Notorious BIG.

While the tumor Ginsburg suffered kept her out of the spotlight — it also undoubtedly gave her a rest from public scrutiny. Ever since January there had been long, dead silences from Ginsurg and her team on the 86-year-old’s health.

The political world has played a delicate game so far, trying to respect the health of Ginsburg while also being prepared to expect that a new spot for the the Supreme Court opened should Ginsburg be unfit for the bench.

RBG is officially back, and everybody is going to have their eyes on her.
