Liberal comedian Chelsea Handler is demanding her money back from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Handler says the mansion RFK, Jr. and his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, sold her in Los Angeles has so many problems that she has never been able to move in — more than four years after paying nearly $6 million for the home.
Handler, 51, made the outrageous claim during a recent episode of her “Dear Chelsea” podcast alongside comedian Denis Leary, and said the five-bedroom Brentwood estate she purchased from the couple in October 2021 for $5.9 million has been a disaster.
“I still have not lived in this house,” Handler said. “That’s how f***ed up this house was. The idea that this guy is in charge of the health of our country when he didn’t even have a proper foundation at his house.”
Kennedy and Hines purchased another home on the same street — this one for $6.6 million — three months before the sale to Handler was finalized.
Of course, Handler made clear politics was her main issue with Kennedy, calling him “the embodiment of everything that is wrong with this administration” and “one of the worst people that I know.”
Handler said she did not know who she was buying the property from at the time. The deal was carried out through trusts on both sides — hers registered under her sister Simone’s name. She was told going in that “everything’s been redone.”
But once she learned it formerly belonged to RFK, Jr., Handler complains the property wasn’t move-in ready.
“When they opened up the house, they were like, ‘This house is the most toxic environment. You cannot live here for at least two years,'” she said. “I’m not exaggerating any of this. It was a disaster, and I didn’t know it going in because everything was, you know, under wraps.”
Handler also said three people told her the property was “cursed.”
She also complained Hines had “the audacity” to leave a note behind after the sale. It read: “Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you, Chelsea.”
“I’m like, ‘Yeah, how about a f***ing foundation?'” Handler said. “That’s something you could do for me. Anyway, I’m not angry about it or anything. I’m totally over it.”
Kennedy, 72, is a former Democrat who ran against Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race before dropping out and endorsing Donald Trump. Trump rewarded him with the HHS post, where he has promoted his popular “Make America Healthy Again” agenda.
