They want expanded background checks on every American who hopes to exercise his Second Amendment right.
They want to watch you… inspect you… and flat-out spy on you.
But the leftists in Congress who are so anxious to dig into your private life aren’t so eager when it comes to their own special interests.
A stunning new report reveals how Democrats in the House were more than happy to skip background checks on their own staff!
As it turned out, that was a mistake with devastating consequences for the safety and security of Congress.
The Daily Caller said all 44 Democratic members of the House of Representatives linked to the scandal surrounding Pakistan-born IT worker Imran Awan and his family members – some of whom were also hired to work for the lawmakers – waived the recommended background checks.
Awan and his relatives are embroiled in a probe that began with an investigation into stolen computer equipment and eventually led to charges of bank fraud. Awan was arrested last year boarding a plane bound for Pakistan, apparently attempting to flee the country.
No one knows how deep this scandal runs just yet.
But it’s clear something is amiss – and it’s something that may have been caught if the Democratic members of the House simply followed the rules.
“The House security policy requires offices to fill out a form attesting that they’ve initiated background checks, but it also includes a loophole allowing them to simply say that another member vouched for them,” the Daily Caller report noted.
The result? House Democrats now have egg on their face as it turns out these employees, who are at the center of a growing scandal, had numerous red flags that no doubt would have shown up on any decent background check.

The Daily Caller notes the family was involved in a bankruptcy… multiple lawsuits… links to “cryptic LLCs” and possibly even a car dealership that allegedly collected $100,000 from an Iraqi fugitive.
Yet the lawmakers appear to have simply “vouched” for them.
Meanwhile, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida) – who was one of several members who hired Awan – sponsored a bill to expand background checks not only for gun purchases, but also to ammo.
“Former DNC chair, who hired Pakistanis to manage her US Congressional email accounts, introduces bill to perform background checks on ammunition purchasers,” wrote Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky). “Can’t make this stuff up.”
Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) called the latest revelations “really, really troubling.”
“You also have to look at the conduct of these Democratic members of the Congress. Why did they let this happen?” he asked in an interview on Fox News. “Was there some underlying reason why the Awans were basically given free rein to run a scheme inside the Congress where they’re getting paid for no-show jobs and they have basically, unadulterated access to these members’ servers?”
Even Democrats are admitting something’s amiss.
“I haven’t read the full report but I believe everyone should be vetted,” former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile, said on Fox Business Network.
DeSantis is calling on the Oversight Committee to investigate… but if Democrats seize control of the House this fall, they could kill any attempt to get to the bottom of this scandal.
And once again, Americans may never learn the truth.
