On Saturday, Former President Donald Trump had left the Republican National Committee’s retreat in New Orleans, and he was flying to his estate in Florida.
Then, the Trump team made an emergency landing due to an engine failure over the Gulf of Mexico.
The engine failure occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday. One of the plane’s engines failed roughly 75 miles (120 kilometers) after leaving New Orleans Lakefront Airport, the Associated Press reported.
A Trump spokesperson confirmed the emergency landing to the AP on Wednesday, after Politico had broken the story earlier that day.
Trump had been traveling with advisers, a Secret Service detail and support staff. After the landing, they secured another donor’s plane, and the former president ultimately returned to Mar-a-Lago on Sunday.
No injuries were reported, but some Twitter users were wishing injuries on Trump — a man with a 15-year-old son.
“Trump dying over the Gulf of Mexico feels too much like poetic justice to ever happen,” one user tweeted, referring to Trump’s alleged racism against Latinos.

Trump delivered a 90-minute speech at the event, according to Politico. He reportedly devoted much of that time to bashing his critics, and he allegedly called House Intelligence Committer Chair Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a “watermelon head.”
Trump also spoke about “looking … very, very strongly” at a 2024 run for the presidency, Politico reported.
