She spent years acting as former President Joe Biden’s biggest supporters and apologists.
She even defended him during the end of his presidency when questions of his cognitive abilities began to surface, pushing back on reports and covering up his decline on what seemed a daily basis.
But former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has finally had enough, shocking fellow Democrats saying that she’s quitting the political party now that she’s not working in the White House any longer.
Jean-Pierre said she has switched her affiliation to independent after working in two Democratic administrations.
“Until January 20, I was responsible for speaking on behalf of the President of the United States,” Jean-Pierre said in a statement released Wednesday.
“At noon on that day, I became a private citizen who, like all Americans and many of our allies around the world, had to contend with what was to come next for our country. I determined that the danger we face as a country requires freeing ourselves of boxes. We need to be willing to exercise the ability to think creatively and plan strategically.”
The news of her party switch conveniently coincides with the announcement of her upcoming, tell-all book.
According to Legacy Lit, a Hachette Book Group imprint will publish “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines” on Oct. 21.
The book promises a close look at President Biden’s decision not to run for reelection and calls for bipartisanism, not the two-party system, told from the eyes of Jean-Pierre.
Jean-Pierre, 50, succeeded Jen Psaki as press secretary in 2022 after previously serving as deputy press secretary and also working as a senior adviser during Biden’s victorious 2020 campaign.
During President Barack Obama’s first term, she was a regional political director.
Jean-Pierre was heavily criticized at times for being evasive about Biden’s physical condition, especially at the end of his term — but now she has books to sell.
But Wednesday’s announcement from Legacy Lit says that she will take readers “through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision.”
“She presents clear arguments and provocative evidence as an insider about the importance of dismantling the torrent of disinformation and misinformation that has been rampant in recent elections and provides passionate insight for moving forward,” the announcement said.
In addition to her new upcoming book, Jean-Pierre has landed a new job out of the realm of journalism, being named the grand marshal of the upcoming NYC Gay Pride parade happening on June 29.
She admitted in an interview with People March that she didn’t miss being in the spotlight.
Jean-Pierre said her months since leaving the White House had involved “self-care, sleep, hanging out with my family, hanging out with my friends.”
As previously reported by The Horn News, Jean-Pierre’s prospects of diving back into the world of journalism and media took a hit after Biden left office.
Many insiders assumed that after leaving The White House, Jean-Pierre would follow in the steps of past press secretaries and become a panelist on a mainstream news network.
“She’ll go where all the other failed Hollywood actors go when they’re useless to the deep state: a cable chat show that exclusively exists to sell weird books and products to lonely women,” media veteran Kay Hill said.
However, it seems like she’s content staying on the sidelines — and distancing herself from the Democratic Party.
