President Joe Biden hasn’t had much good news lately.
Members of his own party won’t pass his huge spending bill, even after he whittled it down.
His mental lapses go viral online.
Even the mainstream media is filled with stories about how he and his handpicked vice president, Kamala Harris, can’t stand each other.
And he just got even worse news: After Biden’s historically unsuccessful year in office, the Democrats are about to get wiped out by Republicans in the midterms—by a margin so enormous that nobody saw it coming.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is predicting the biggest Republican landslide in more than 70 years—and his argument is backed up with strong polls that have the Biden administration biting its fingernails.
The last time a Democrat was in his first term, Republicans won more seats than any midterm election since the Forties.
“Pelosi’s 2009 stubbornness was repaid by the American people when they elected an additional 64 Republicans to the House in 2010,” said Newt Gingrich recently, referring to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
He says if the GOP can campaign the way Glenn Youngkin did when he got elected Virginia’s next governor, they’ll have a bigger sweep in next year’s midterm elections.
“I believe an immediate, consistent, and effective Republican application of the lessons of 2021 could lead to a 40- to 70-seat gain in the House” — 70 seats, more than the humiliation Biden suffered when he was Barack Obama’s vice president.
And Gingrich says this is going to go way deeper than Congress. The Republican landslide will also produce “at least a four-seat gain in the Senate; and gains in governorships, state legislatures, and local offices including school boards next year,” he says.
Predicting your party will win is not new—but the former House speaker and presidential candidate is backing it up with one poll after another.
A new Rasmussen poll shows that Republicans have a double-digit lead over Democrats in the midterms. A majority of Americans say they’d vote for a generic Republican in 2022 over a generic Democrat… and some of the groups on the GOP’s team must make Democrats wonder what they did wrong.
“Slightly more women voters than men favor Republican control of Congress,” Rasmussen says.
Republicans also win the middle class. “Breaking down the electorate by income brackets, Republicans enjoy their largest advantage – 55% to 37% – among voters earning between $50,000 and $100,000 a year,” Rasmussen adds.
Having a Congress controlled by the other party would force Joe Biden to give up on his radical, big spending agenda to transform America and could set him on the way to becoming a one-term president.
But that’s not the worst news Biden got.
Rasmussen asked American voters how they’d feel if Joe Biden endorsed a candidate in a local race.
A majority of Americans said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate if Joe Biden endorsed him, the poll found.
“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 27% of Likely U.S. Voters say they would be more likely to vote for a candidate for election in their state who was endorsed by Biden. Fifty-one percent (51%) would be less likely to vote for a candidate endorsed by Biden,” Rasmussen reported on November 9. “Twenty percent (20%) say a Biden endorsement would not make much difference in their vote.”
So, people are almost twice as likely to vote against candidates who agree with Joe Biden than vote for them…just like Terry McAuliffe said when he was losing his race against Youngkin in Virginia.
That’s not much of a present for Joe Biden, who will celebrate his 79th birthday on Saturday. A new Morning Consult/Politico poll shows that more Americans say he’s not “mentally fit” for office than believe he’s competent. Half of Americans believe he’s not “in good health.”
And remember, Vice President Kamala Harris’ approval numbers are even lower.
Happy birthday, Mr. President. Your next birthday present may be delivered by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
