Yesterday, the FBI raided the office of a powerful Virginia Democratic lawmaker as part of a federal corruption and illegal marijuana sale probe — a move that she may have predicted could happen to her nearly three years ago.
Longtime state Sen. L. Louise Lucas, a powerful Democrat in Virginia politics who campaigned for newly elected Gov. Abigail Spanberger in 2025, is at the center of a major FBI corruption probe, according to federal law enforcement sources.
A federal law enforcement source familiar with the case clarified that the corruption probe was opened by the FBI during the Biden administration, according to the New York Post.
Yesterday, federal agents executed court-authorized criminal search warrants at Lucas’ office in Portsmouth, Virginia, according to federal law enforcement sources.
The FBI simultaneously carried out a SWAT-team search of a nearby cannabis dispensary called The Cannabis Outlet, which is co-owned by Lucas, according to documents.
At least three people were detained during the raids, including footage of Lucas later arriving on the scene.
“I don’t know what’s going on,” the 82-year-old legislator told Fox News correspondent Alex Hogan.
“I just came from a medical appointment.”

Lucas has been a longtime supporter of marijuana legalization in Virginia, co-sponsoring the 2021 law that legalized possession and continuing to back efforts to establish a regulated retail market.
She’s also shared posts on X bragging about the hemp and cannabis business.
On Jan. 1 this year, Lucas had posted on X that her New Year’s Resolutions included “Retail Cannabis Markets,” “Lowering costs for Virginians,” and “10-1” — a reference to the number of Democratic seats versus GOP ones should the referendum succeed in drawing new maps.
Lucas is known for a bombastic social media presence, heavy on crude language and memes.
During a heated statewide debate about the recently-passed Virginia redistricting map, Lucas sparred with critics on X, ripping President Donald Trump and mocking Republicans with a GIF of herself dancing to Famous Dex’s “Hoes Mad.”
She has asserted that Democrats will “fight fire with fire” regarding the redistricting fight and said, “You can bet your a– that Democrats are ready for this fight.”
However, in an ironic twist, back in 2023, she posted a veiled threat to Donald Trump about his legal troubles, saying “nobody is above the law”, which was quickly resurfaced online following the raid of her office.

In response to yesterday’s raid, Virginia state Republican Delegate Wren Williams, told Fox News Digital that “Rumors of corruption and pay-to-play politics have long surrounded the Democratic Party’s infrastructure in Virginia. However, no one has been willing to do anything to hold these power brokers accountable.”
Williams emphasized that “everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but it takes a federal judge to issue search warrants to the FBI.
“When the chief of police and prosecutor tried to hold Senator Lucas accountable for her actions last time, each were removed from office shortly thereafter,” he asserted, adding, “Sunlight is the best cure for corruption. I’m sure the Commonwealth of Virginia will be very interested to see what comes of this investigation.”
Lucas has not commented on the raid at the time of publication.
