Search and rescue teams are urgently scouring the island of Symi, Greece for any signs of TV personality and health author Dr. Michael Mosley after he went missing during a hike on Wednesday.
Mosley, 67, was reported missing by his wife Dr. Clare Bailey when he failed to return from a walk along St. Nicholas Beach in the afternoon. The British couple had been vacationing on the Greek island.
According to local police spokesperson Constantia Dimoglidou, an extensive search operation has yet to locate Mosley.
“Any and every attempt to track him down has not produced any result,” Dimoglidou told The Daily Mail. “We have now asked the fire brigade to assist in case that he may have slipped, tripped, fallen, even bitten by a snake, remaining injured somewhere.”
Dimoglidou added that authorities fear Mosley, famous throughout the United Kingdom for his regular TV appearances and bestselling diet books like “The Fast 800,” may have potentially “fallen from a height” in the island’s rugged terrain.
Greek emergency services, the coast guard and local rescue teams have fanned out across Symi’s remote forests, hills and, shorelines in the intensive search effort.
“There is just no trace of him. None whatsoever and that means that for us at least, every potential scenario is open and being investigated,” the police spokesperson stated.
A community group on the island has circulated photos of Mosley wearing a blue polo shirt and baseball cap when last seen, appealing to the public for any information that could aid in locating the 67-year-old television doctor.
“Have you seen this man? He set off to walk back from St. Nick’s at about 13:30 and failed to make it home,” the post read. “His friends are concerned as it is 6 hours since they last saw him.”
As the multi-agency rescue operation presses on, hopes are fading that Mosley, who has four children with his wife, will be found safe after his inexplicable disappearance during what was supposed to be a routine scenic hike.
I'm a big fan of Michael Mosley's. This is awful news. Thoughts are with his family and really hoping he is found well. https://t.co/o9MU86J61M
