Donald Trump Jr. marked his father’s return to the White House by sharing President-elect Donald Trump’s “resignation letter” to McDonald’s, playing off a memorable campaign moment.
It seems Trump got a new job starting in late January.
“Dear Management at McDonald’s, please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from my position at McDonald’s, effective Monday, January 20, 2025,” read the letter on McDonald’s letterhead, posted to Trump Jr.’s social media Wednesday.
“During my tenure here, I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve our customers and contribute to the fast-paced environment of this establishment,” the letter continued. “From flipping burgers to making fries and managing the drive-thru, I’ve learned a lot about both the restaurant business and the value of hard work.”
The resignation letter was a reference to Trump’s October campaign visit to a McDonald’s in Feasterville, Pennsylvania, where he worked the fry station wearing a black and yellow apron over his suit.
The visit aimed to counter Democratic rival Kamala Harris’s unproven claims about working at McDonald’s during college.
“Upon learning of the former president’s request, we approached it through the lens of one of our core values: we open our doors to everyone,” McDonald’s said at the time. “We are not red or blue – we are golden.”
Social media erupted with reactions to Trump’s campaign stop.
“Fix that damn ice cream machine before ya head out,” one Instagram user quipped at the time.
Another commented, “Setting example to the American people,” while some users joked about updating Trump’s LinkedIn profile for his new role as the 47th president.
The letter concluded with trademark corporate farewell language: “I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition during my remaining time here. Please let me know how I can assist in finding and training my replacement… I look forward to my next adventure, but I leave with fond memories of my time at McDonald’s.”
Trump’s January 20 inauguration will mark his historic return as the first U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms this century, and only the second time in United States history.
