House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has used all her political influence in Washington to pin the increasingly unpopular government shutdown on President Donald Trump.
In many ways, she was winning — until Wednesday’s stunt blew up in her face.
Pelosi’s unwillingness to set aside just a small fraction (less than one percent) of the annual budget for a wall on our southern border has been ignored by the liberal media.
Instead, the mainstream media has joined Democrats and tried to convince voters that the White House is to blame for the current crisis.
But when Pelosi demanded that Trump cancel the annual State of the Union address as part of the shutdown, Trump was ready.
And what he said couldn’t be ignored by even the most liberal media pundit.
Pelosi cited the cost of security needed for the State of the Union address as a reason Trump should cancel it — and Trump was ready.
If Pelosi is so concerned about costs, though… why is Pelosi continuing to cash her own six-figure salary paychecks every week?

To their credit, the Secret Service and Homeland Security aren’t concerned, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
“The Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union,” Nielsen said. “We thank the Service for their mission focus and dedication and for all they do each day to secure our homeland.”
And when Trump was elected president, he announced he would decline the salary normally paid to the commander in chief. He regularly donates the money to veteran causes instead.
As of 2015, Pelosi had approximately $30 million dollars in assets — so she doesn’t need the money.
If she’s so concerned about the costs of the government shutdown and the State of the Union address, why is Pelosi still cashing her $223,000 salary paychecks?
It’s a question all American voters want to know — but the silence from Democrats is deafening.
As of Thursday, Pelosi has refused to answer questions about her pay.
