Paris Olympics running out of food for athletes?

Every single Olympic games has some kind of hitch — especially for the competing athletes.

From travel logistics, to lodging, to competing in odd time zones.

But for the athletes in the Paris games, they might be short of the one thing they can’t live without.

Food!

The opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics haven’t even happened yet, and organizers are facing a logistical nightmare that could impact the performance of countless athletes who have trained for years to compete this summer.

There is a shortage of two of the most proteins for any athlete on the planet: grilled chicken and eggs.

According to a report from the Times of London, some athletes have resorted to bringing packed meals back to the Olympic Village because they simply can’t get their hands on any chicken and eggs.

Apparently there is a big push for this year’s games to have more plant-based food items — specifically proteins — in an effort to reduce the Olympics’ carbon footprint.

Unfortunately, this means less of the pure proteins many athletes are accustomed to eating as part of their training.

On the surface, it seems that Olympic officials are trying to force world-class athletes into eating vegan meals because ‘carbon footprints’ are more important than providing adequate food options for those who rely on animal proteins.

There is nothing wrong with vegan or vegetarian diets as many world-class athletes adhere to those diets. But to have a shortage of animal proteins on the world’s biggest stage cannot happen.

Remember years ago when decorated swimmer Michael Phelps made headlines highlighting how many calories he needed to consume each day just to replenish what he lost during training?

If he didn’t have that at his disposal, perhaps he wouldn’t have won as much as he did.

Now imagine being an athlete in these Olympic games now scrambling to eat the proteins needed to perform at their best.
