Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro delivered a much anticipated speech on Wednesday at the University of Connecticut — and far-left students had a mental breakdown.
Prior to Shapiro’s arrival, the university made a list of restrictions making it harder for people to attend the speech.
This university despises conservatives so much that they even offered counseling to students who could not stand the mentioning of this conservative speaker’s name.
“Something has to be done about a system where a few crazed leftists decide they don’t want to hear somebody speak — and therefore, people from the outside who pay taxes to universities like this one can’t get in,” Shapiro told the audience.
Shapiro was speaking about the hundreds of people who were barred from attending his speech due to the school’s strict rules of only only 500 seats in the room. According to Shapiro, there were an additional 500-600 people outside trying to attend.
The event was closed off to the public… even though other speeches offered at the university last week were made public.
A student introducing Shapiro was forced by the university to read off a disclaimer stating that the school considers free speech to be a core value, adding that everyone should be able “to speak without interruption.”
Shocked that the university would feel compelled to read a disclaimer, Shapiro poked fun. After a student asked to take a selfie with him, Shapiro joked that it was the university’s decision if he was allowed to take a picture with a student because of their tight security.
During his speech, Shapiro sarcastically mentioned that he provided a copy of speech underneath every seat. He was poking fun at the November 28, 2017 incident at UConn where an insane liberal snatched conservative commentator Lucian Wintrich’s speech off of the lectern.
At the same exact time that the conservative speech was being held, the university was also holding an event for liberals.
“I do find it sort of amazing by the way that the left is so afraid of open conversation that they scheduled an event at the exact same time,” Shapiro responded, adding that he would like left-leaning students to come to his event because he “prefers speaking to people with whom I disagree… because discussions are useful.”
A month prior to Shapiro’s event, the university sent out a letter alerting students of his speech and even offered counseling.
Yes, you read that right. These snowflakes are so terrified of hearing a different opinion than their own that they needed to seek counseling.
Shapiro did note that students seemed respectful during both his speech and question and answer portion after the event.
