Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has made some insane statements in the past — but what she said Monday left voters furious.
The New York socialist didn’t just lie.
She lied while making light of the Holocaust.
In an online video, Ocasio-Cortez told voters — falsely — that President Donald Trump is secretly running “concentration camps” on the U.S-Mexico border.
“The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border. That is exactly what they are: they are concentration camps,” Ocasio-Cortez said, shrugging her shoulders.
She compared Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and said Republican voters were “fascists” for demanding border security.
“I don’t use those words lightly,” she said. “I don’t use those words to just throw bombs. I use the words because that’s what an administration that creates concentration camps is. ”
“A presidency that creates concentration camps is fascist and it’s very difficult to say that,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Mandatory detention on the U.S.-Mexico border for asylum seekers was originally created by former President Bill Clinton. It was later expanded under former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama before gaining the attention of the mainstream media under the Trump administration.
Six million Jews died in the Holocaust. Hundreds of thousands of American soldiers sacrificed their lives to liberate the Nazi concentration camps.
In the face of backlash, Ocasio-Cortez refused to back down to critics.
On Tuesday, she blasted back on Twitter and said criticism of her was just from “shrieking Republicans” —
And for the shrieking Republicans who don’t know the difference: concentration camps are not the same as death camps.
Concentration camps are considered by experts as “the mass detention of civilians without trial.”
