Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., just got a million dollars worth of bad news from her Democratic primary rival Michelle Caruso-Cabrera.
Caruso-Cabrera, a former CNBC anchor, formerly entered the race in February. In just two short months, the moderate Democrat has amassed a surprising $1 million in donations for her campaign as she competes to unseat AOC in the Democratic primary in June.
“The outpouring of support has been amazing. Before Coronavirus people were stopping me on the street showing their excitement. And from the beginning the countless handwritten letters from near and far from across the country have been so moving,” Caruso-Cabrera said.
“The national and local messages are clear: I will unite. AOC’s reign of division will end,” she continued. “This early financial and political support shows unstoppable momentum. As they say in New York, ‘you ain’t seen nothing yet.’”
While Caruso-Cabrera’s campaign grows, Ocasio-Cortez has spent the last few days jumping from controversy to controversy.
On Sunday, AOC told The Daily podcast she was “thankful” that coronavirus was helping to expose how rotten America is to voters — and that we need more government control of the economy.
“Government at its best is an instrument to the public and the public’s means of taking care of itself, and this pandemic has just exposed the fragility of our system,” she said. “I already hear people telling me, ‘I can’t believe I didn’t see this before. I cannot believe I didn’t see this before,’ and I’m just thankful that people are seeing it now.”
On Monday, AOC tried to delete a controversial tweet where she said she “absolutely” loves seeing the collapse of the economy and oil industry, which employs thousands of Americans.
And on Wednesday, AOC said Americans should refuse to work when the economy is re-opened — but not because of the threat of coronavirus.
Ocasio-Cortez implied that the coronavirus was an opportunity to advance socialism and dismantle the U.S. economy.
“There’s a lot we could be doing right now, but ultimately … when we talk about this idea of ‘reopening’ society… ya know, only in America when the president tweets ‘LIBERATE AMERICA’ does he mean to go back to work,” she said.
She encouraged people to refuse to work until the government institutes far-left changes in America.
“When we have this discussion about ‘going back’ or ‘reopening’ I think a lot of people should just say, ‘No. We’re not going back to that. We’re not going back to working 70 hour weeks just so that we can put food on the table, and not even feel any semblance of security in our lives.’”

With the controversies mounting and Ocasio-Cortez mired in controversy, the growing moment from Caruso-Cabrera is no surprise. Just this week, the traditionally conservative U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced its plan to endorse AOC’s opponent.
“Michelle is one of the most qualified and competent candidates we have met with this cycle. Her communication skills on jobs and growth will create a clear contrast with AOC,” said Scott Reed, a senior political strategist at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We plan on using our national network to get her the financial resources to win this race.”
It seems AOC may be in big trouble come June.
