Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is in trouble. The freshman lawmaker has terrible poll numbers. Her re-election is anything but certain. She’s feuding with top Democratic leadership.
And now, the “brains” of her political campaign just quit after getting the news he’s under federal investigation.

Ocasio-Cortez’ money-maker, top donation organizer, and chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti — described by The American Spectator as the brain of Ocasio-Cortez’ entire political organization — resigned suddenly on Friday.
Chakrabarti allegedly set-up a million-dollar “slush fund” and siphoned campaign donations made in the name of socialism.
“Chakrabarti, who graduated from Harvard and made millions in the tech industry, founded two PACs — Brand New Congress and Justice Democrats — to rally behind liberal candidates in elections,” The Washington Examiner reported. “However, Federal Election Commission filings showed he siphoned more than $1 million in political contributions into two private firms that he also owned.”
The Horn News reported in March that Ocasio-Cortez’ office was subject to three different ethics investigations by the Federal Elections Commission (FEC).

The sudden resignation by Chakrabarti five months later has raised eyebrows inside the beltway. According to the FEC, investigations are only conducted if there’s sufficient evidence for authorities to believe the reported violations are serious.
Ocasio-Cortez was caught in a number of lies when trying to explain away the investigations in March. She blamed “creepy” conservatives and called the probes “bogus.” She even blamed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
Chakrabarti’s resignation comes after reports that he’s not the only person being looked at by investigators. Ocasio-Cortez herself is under investigation for ethics misconduct and shady bookkeeping.
“Federal authorities are looking at new salary rules imposed by Ocasio-Cortez when she took office earlier this year, and whether they were put in place to let Chakrabarti dodge public financial-disclosure rules, according to the source. Although Ocasio-Cortez raised the salaries of junior staffers in her office to just over $52,000 a year, Chakrabarti took a massive pay cut,” The New York Post reported.

Chakrabarti was paid just $80,000 annually by Ocasio-Cortez — much less than his position’s average salary of $146,000. Conveniently, that put his salary under the congressional rules that legally require the disclosure of outside income.
In other words, this investigation into her political “brain” may be just the beginning of Ocasio-Cortez’ legal troubles.
