Ivanka Trump had the Gridiron Club crowd rolling with laughter – and she hadn’t even prepared any jokes for the event, citing that President Donald Trump had requesting her presence that same day.
“No, this isn’t a joke,” she said.
Instead, she said she had a last minute idea for the upscale comedic roast that was even better than a routine.
“…I figured the funniest thing I could do is read you excerpts from the Green New Deal.” The comments refer to the draconian measures put forth by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
The proposed environmental bill faced such widespread flak for its disastrous potential ideas –banning cars and airplanes and “cow farts” completely – that it’s become the butt of most Washington, D.C. jokes.
Ivanka’s burning remarks only add to the feud between her and Ocasio-Cortez, which stemmed from Ivanka’s attacks on the $90+ trillion dollar Green New Deal.
“I don’t think most Americans in their heart want to be given something,” she said in an interview with Fox News.
“I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years,” Ivanka said. “People want to work for what they get, so I think this idea of a guaranteed minimum wage is not something most people want. They want the ability to live in a country where there’s the potential for upward mobility.”
At the Gridiron Club dinner, which featured Capitol Hill members, White House administration and media personalities, Ivanka went on to self-deprecate her family a bit, saying “The press seems to think that it’s ironic that I, born of great privilege, think that people want to work for what they are given. As if being Donald Trump’s daughter isn’t the hardest job in the world.”
The Gridiron Club motto, “singe, not burn” was largely upheld by everyone in attendance.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-M.N. poked fun at prior reports of her being a mean boss and even threw in a dirty joke about New England Patriots Owner Robert Kraft.
Among the attendees were Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Ted Cruz, Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, presidential candidate John Delaney and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, according to Variety.
