In Jonathan Swift’s 1729 political satire, “A Modest Proposal” the author sacastically suggested the poor Irish should eat their children to solve their money problems.
Swift argues (with tongue firmly in cheek) that using children as food would mean more food and less kids to feed, a win-win for poor families.
On Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was seen on camera agreeing that eating babies might actually be acceptable — if it stopped climate change.
At a community event in New York City, a fake protester suggested the modest climate change proposal to Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez’ response stunned her critics.
“We only have a few months left!” the woman, who works for a conservative political PAC, said. “I love that you support the Green New Deal, but it’s not getting rid of fossil fuels. But it’s not going to solve the problem fast enough. There’s a Swedish professor saying we could eat dead people, but that’s not enough!”
“That’s not fast enough,” she said. “So I think your next campaign slogan should be this: ‘We’ve got to start eating babies.'”
She took off her jacket to display a T-shirt that read, “Save the planet. Eat the children.”
Shockingly, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t once interrupt the insane rant.
In fact, quite the opposite.
She nodded along in agreement and allowed the protester to go even further.
“There’s too much CO2! All of you … are pollutants,” she told the crowd. Some joined Ocasio-Cortez and nodded along. “Too much CO2. We have to start now!”
She said the Green New Deal — a bill Ocasio-Cortez proposed that included outlawing cow farts, rebuilding every single building in America, and banning planes — didn’t go far enough to save the planet.
“Even if we bomb Russia, we still have too many people!” the woman told Ocasio-Cortez, who continued to nod along. “We still have too much pollution.”
“So we have to get rid of the babies. Just stopping having babies is not enough. We need to eat the babies!” the woman exclaimed.
Fox News’ Tucker Carlson shared the video on his show Thursday, and pointed out the most insane part of the video was what the audience didn’t hear.
“If someone said to you, ‘We need to eat babies!’ wouldn’t your immediate response be, ‘WHAT!? No. Of course not.'” Carlson pointed out, laughing. “That’s the one thing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t say. Pretty revealing.”
