The “Portal,” a live video link between New York City and Dublin that was temporarily shut down due to inappropriate behavior from users on both sides of the Atlantic, has reopened with new security measures in place.
The open-air video link installation, which initially launched on May 8, was taken offline last week after videos of bad behavior, including an OnlyFans model in New York baring her breasts and people in Dublin holding up swastikas, surfaced on social media.

The organizers, the Dublin City Council and Manhattan business group Flatiron NoMad Partnership, have now implemented additional security features to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Under the new measures, the “Portal” will operate daily between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. in New York, which corresponds to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Dublin.
More fencing has been installed on the New York side of the installation, and steps have been taken to prevent people from stepping on the sculpture and holding their phones up to the camera lens.
If individuals obstruct the camera, it will trigger a blurring of the livestream for everyone on both sides of the Atlantic.
The organizers had initially promoted the exhibit as a way to “embrace the beauty of global interconnectedness,” but the inappropriate behavior forced them to pause the project.
With the new security measures in place, they believe that thousands of “Portal” fans will be able to enjoy the experience on both sides of the Atlantic without further disruptions.
The “Portal” is scheduled to remain open through the fall, allowing people in New York and Dublin to connect and interact with each other through the live video link.
The organizers hope that the installation will foster a sense of global unity and understanding, despite the initial setbacks caused by the inappropriate behavior of a few individuals.
