A surprising new poll from Fox News shows Americans are rallying around President Donald Trump’s leadership during the deadly Wuhan virus pandemic.
And it comes at the expense of presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
In the latest presidential election matchup poll, Fox News reports Trump and Biden are tied at 42 percent — and it seems to be from a bump in support for the president from former Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., voters.
Just two weeks ago, that same poll showed Biden was leading Trump by 9 percentage points. In October 2019, Biden was ahead by 12 percent in a presumptive matchup.
What’s changed? According to Fox News, Americans have rallied around Trump during the coronavirus outbreak.
And most troubling for the Biden campaign is his plummeting support among registered Democratic voters. Just 80 percent of Democrats say they’ll vote for Biden over Trump, a sudden 7 percent decline since March.
That may indicate that former supporters of Sanders are upset with the treatment their candidate was given during the Democratic primary contest by the party’s establishment, and are ready to support Trump over Biden in the general election.
The Trump campaign has been actively recruiting former Sanders supporters since the Vermont senator dropped out of the primary on Wednesday.
The president himself tweeted that if it weren’t for the DNC, Sanders could have won — and invited his supporters to “trade” to the Republican Party.
Bernie Sanders is OUT! Thank you to Elizabeth Warren. If not for her, Bernie would have won almost every state on Super Tuesday! This ended just like the Democrats & the DNC wanted, same as the Crooked Hillary fiasco. The Bernie people should come to the Republican Party, TRADE!
