Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attacked President Donald Trump and his supporters on MSNBC Tuesday — and demanding to know without a hint of irony why the American people “tolerate a grifter like this in the White House.”
Pelosi, who has made millions of dollars while in office, made the comments during an appearance on “The Briefing” with host Jen Psaki, herself a former White House press secretary under former President Joe Biden.
“You wonder why the American people tolerate a grifter like this in the White House?” the ultrawealthy Pelosi asked. “A grifter family… that, they you put money into their account, and then they say you can buy chips… high powered chips from the United States. That’s the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution.”
Psaki set up Pelosi’s attack by claiming Trump is “basically busy lining his pockets, and those of his billionaire friends bailing out his buddy in Argentina, while millions of Americans are waiting to see if their health care costs are going to go up.”
Of course, just days before the United States Congress, under then-Speaker Pelosi, voted to subsidize the manufacturing of microchips in the United State in 2022, husband Paul Pelosi bought over a million dollars in computer chip manufacturing stocks.
This is not the first time Pelosi has called Trump a “grifter” on MSNBC. In March 2024, she made similar comments on the same network, telling Psaki that “it’s very clear that Trump is a grifter.”
Trump won the 2024 presidential election in a landslide, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris after Biden dropped out of the race following his disastrous debate performance.
Pelosi, 84, and husband Paul have amassed a fortune estimated at over $100 million, largely through stock trades and real estate investments that have are potential conflicts of interest.
The former Speaker represents California’s 11th Congressional District, which includes most of San Francisco.
