House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was accused by freshman Rep. Mayra Flores, R-Texas, of shoving Flores’ daughter during her swearing-in ceremony.
Flores won election to U.S. House in Texas’ 34th Congressional District in a special election on June 21, flipping the former Democratic district into Republican control.
Former Rep. Filemon Vela Jr., D-T.X., announced he was resigning from Congress in March to join a lobbying firm.
At Flores’ swearing-in ceremony, the freshman congresswoman said Pelosi elbowed her young daughter out of the way during a photo opportunity.
“I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her,” Flores wrote on social media.
“She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen.”
“No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!”

Earlier in the day, Flores had shared a picture of her new office.
“My very first day in office and it’s a memorable one for sure,” she wrote. “This is what dreams are made of; faith, family, and hardwork.”
