Nancy Pelosi is dead-set on giving herself a pay raise, and there’s one thing you need to know about Pelosi: If she wants money, do not stand in her way!
The selfless liberal, who wants everybody else to “share” their income with the poor, is absolutely ruthless when it comes to chasing a buck.
Republican leaders stopped Democrats in Congress from raising their own pay for 10 solid years. So, it should come as no surprise that the first thing Pelosi did after she became Speaker of the House was reach into your pocket for more money.
But there was a catch… Pelosi’s pay-hike plan is almost as unpopular as Pelosi is.
72% of all Americans are against giving the anti-Trump Congress one more red cent. And 73% disapprove of Congress.
So, when a reporter pinned Pelosi down about her unpopular decision last week, the San Francisco Democrat lied through her teeth.
“It’s not a pay raise!” she said. “It’s a COLA increase.”
COLA stands for “Cost of Living Adjustment,” like the kind that senior citizens get every year in their Social Security checks.
The difference is that Congress is demanding almost 10 times more than the COLA allowance senior citizens got this year. The average Social Security check ticked up by a measly $468 in 2019…and that was the largest increase for people on fixed incomes in 7 years, thanks to President Trump.
Pelosi claimed that somehow raising congressmen’s inflated salaries would help poor people get elected to Congress.
The $4,500 raise “should be about everybody having the opportunity – many more women, many more people of color, and the rest. And that that is where some of the unease comes from, that people say, it shouldn’t.”
Give us a break!
The average Congressman makes $174,000 — and since Pelosi is House Speaker, she rakes in a cool $223,500 every year.
That salary nets them more than about 90% of all Americans—not to mention that Congress also has some of the sweetest benefits in the country…but it’s still not enough for them.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined in the act, tweeting that “voting against the cost of living increases for members of Congress may sound nice,” but it “only increases pressure on them to keep dark money loopholes open.”
In other words: Give me a raise or I’ll start taking bribes!
Liberals like Pelosi and AOC don’t care that working families have to sacrifice to pay the Democrats’ salaries through steep taxes, which the IRS skims off the top before workers ever see their checks.
Pelosi thinks Americans owe it to her.
But the left-wing Democrats obviously don’t care a whit about working people’s jobs, security, or families.
Almost every Democrat running for president in 2020 has backed Bernie Sanders’ socialist “Medicare for All” plan. Crazy Bernie’s socialized medicine gimmick “will wipe out a staggering 2.5 million health insurance and healthcare jobs nationwide, causing the number of unemployed people in this country to jump by almost half,” wrote Betsy McCaughey in The American Spectator.
That’s huge — but it’s just the opening bid for the socialists’ wrecking crew.
Democratic presidential hopefuls also can’t pass up a chance to bash Trump for pulling out of the eco-extremist Paris Accords. But re-joining the Green pact would destroy another two million-plus jobs held by US workers over the next 5 years, according to Marsh & McLennan management consultants.
Those two programs alone would put four-and-a-half million people out of work, doubling the total number of unemployed American citizens.
Then there are the Democrats’ policies on the border.
About half of all the wages Americans lost between 1980 and 1994 was due to competition from low-paid, lower-skilled immigrants—and everybody in Washington knows it. Even Bill Clinton’s left-wing Treasury Secretary, Robert Reich, admitted, “Undoubtedly access to lower-wage foreign workers has a depressing effect” on wages.
About 1,880,000 American workers are “displaced from their jobs every year by immigration,” according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, and ‘the cost for providing welfare and assistance to these Americans was over $15 billion a year.”
And that’s just legal immigration. Illegals ask even less money for their work.
But somehow the open-borders Congress thinks it deserves a pay hike. Conservatives slapped down the idea at once.
“How about this: when Congress does its job and provides resources and border security to address the obvious crisis going on at our southern border, then we can debate a pay raise,” said conservative Congressman Mark Meadows of North Carolina.
Democrats heard from enough outraged constituents that they “pulled” the bill last week—but look for it to turn up like a bad penny the first minute we’re not watching, wrapped up in more of Pelosi’s lies.
