First Lady Melania Trump has brought grace, beauty and dignity back to the White House — and supporters say her appearance at the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Awards 2017 was empowering to women across the globe.
The awards were given to 12 inspiring women across the world who have overcome injustice and have fought for the rights of others, even in the face of danger.
“We must continue once again to shine a light on the horrendous atrocities taking place around the corner and around the globe,” Melania said. “We must continue to fight injustice in all its forms, in whatever scale or shape it takes in our lives. Together, we must declare that the era of allowing brutality against women and children is over.”
She then handed out the awards personally to each of the women, and many of the awardees grew emotional while being honored.
Melania has promised that, as first lady, women’s empowerment around the globe would be a key platform for her.
She is expected to officially move from the Trump family apartment in New York City to the White House’s East Wing later in 2017, following the end of 11-year-old son Barron’s school year.
