Is Sen. Mitch McConnell recovering in the hospital, or is he ‘brain dead’ and will never return to the U.S. Senate?
McConnell has been in the hospital for 23 days, and his office has still told the public almost nothing. His daughter has deleted her social media accounts, and reports say McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, has left the country and is in China.
The Hill published an obituary for McConnell on accident Monday — the same day conservative activist Laura Loomer posted on X that the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican had been declared clinically brain dead.
“High level source close to the White House tells me Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead. He’s not coming back,” Loomer wrote. “A very high level source told me Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead and machines are keeping him alive, but he is a vegetable and ‘never coming back.'”
Later Monday night, Loomer said a staffer of Senate Majority Leader John Thune shared that McConnell had “extreme organ failure.”
Mitch McConnell is being kept “alive” by life support machines, but my White House source told me McConnell is in organ failure, and as I reported, source told me he has allegedly been declared a vegetable (brain dead) by doctors and the White House has been told “McConnell isn’t…

McConnell’s office has not confirmed the rumors, but has also not denied them.
“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session,” his office said in a statement.
Independent journalist Desiree Townsend — the same reporter who first discovered the EMS audio confirming a cardiac arrest and that CPR had been performed at McConnell’s D.C. home on June 14 — said Monday she had been hearing the same claims from her own sources for days.
I have heard the same thing from my sources for days. At this point, I am at the hospital for when they eventually decide to move cut him off of life support and move his body. His Capitol police detail is still here as of 3:39pm ET. https://t.co/tSTetm51de

MAGA influencer @Catturd2, with four million X followers, is demanding proof that McConnell is alive.
“It’s really easy for Mitch McConnell’s team to prove he’s still alive and well. Just do a video from the hospital. Why won’t they do it?” he asked.
Even fellow Republican senators are in the dark. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said he hasn’t been told anything.
“Many of us aren’t speaking about Mitch McConnell’s condition because we know nothing about his condition,” Lee posted on X.
Steve Bannon has speculated that McConnell’s staff is trying to run out the clock to avoid triggering a special election that could upend the Kentucky Senate race. Under a 2024 Kentucky law, Republican legislators stripped Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear of the power to simply appoint a replacement.
Instead, a special election would be required — and if McConnell is found unable to serve before August 3, Beshear could call that election separately from November’s general election.
“Is McConnell conscious? Is he communicating? Can he review Senate work? Has a doctor cleared him to perform public duties?” conservative news site PJ Media asked.
“Those aren’t meant to be savage questions; they are public-service questions asked with respect for a man and a state.”
Welcome to day 6 of McConnell presumably being brain dead while his staff decide to ignore the rumors.
