The White House administration has been tirelessly at work leading America’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s easy to forget, however, that President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are human, too.
Both Trump and Pence — and their families — are as vulnerable to the virus as anyone.
But they’ve both received good news this week.
Vice President Pence, First Lady Melania Trump, and Second Lady Karen Pence have all tested negative for the deadly virus.
The good news comes shortly after President Trump’s negative test results after coming into contact with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s press secretary, who had been diagnosed with the illness.
Pence was tested as a precaution, citing the “unique position that I have as vice president and as the leader of the White House coronavirus task force.”
But he urged Americans not to get tested unless they show symptoms.
“It is another way that the American people can make sure that we are preserving the resources that our health care workers need to administer and support those who are dealing with the coronavirus and other illnesses.”
White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham also informed CNN Monday that First Lady Melania had tested negative.
“Mrs. Trump got tested the same night as the President was tested, out of an abundance of caution. The test was negative,” Grisham said.
She had been tested the same day as President Trump on March 13, after it was reported that the two might have been exposed to the virus during a stay that same month at Mar-a-Lago.
During one of her Public Service Announcements, Mrs. Trump told Americans that this deadly pandemic will be defeated if we work together.
Relief will come, she suggested.
“Keep a positive attitude, and try to create some time for fun with your loved ones,” the first lady said.
