Former First Lady Melania Trump has broken her silence on the July assassination attempt against her husband, former President Donald Trump — and in a bombshell new video, she questioned law enforcement’s actions and called for a deeper investigation into the incident.
Her questions about a potential conspiracy, and the need for further answers, come as part of a promotional campaign for her forthcoming memoir, “Melania,” set to be released on September 24.
In a 34-second video posted to her X account on Tuesday, accompanied by instrumental music, Melania Trump addressed the assassination attempt that occurred on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience,” she stated. “Now, the silence around it feels heavy.”
The former First Lady went on to question why more wasn’t done to prevent the deadly attack.
“I can’t help but wonder: Why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?” she asked. “There’s definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth.”
Immediately after the assassination attempt, Melania had expressed shock and said, “When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change.”
The assassination attempt, which left Trump with an injury to his ear and resulted in the death of one rally attendee and serious wounds to two others, has sparked intense scrutiny of security measures surrounding the former president.
The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired eight shots before being killed by Secret Service snipers.
The director of the Secret Service resigned following criticism from lawmakers over apparent security failures in the aftermath of the attack. The House voted to form a taskforce to investigate the failings around the rally security, and at least five US Secret Service agents were placed on leave in relation to the July 13 rally.
FBI investigations said Crooks appeared to have acted alone. Kevin Rojek, head of the FBI field office in Pittsburgh, stated that Crooks “engaged in detailed attack planning” and was “hyper-focused” on the Butler rally, viewing it as a “target of opportunity.”
The former First Lady doesn’t seem so convinced, and has called for further answers on the assassination attempt.

Melania has recently also commented on broader political issues, calling for voters to re-lect her husband.
“The 2020 election results changed our lives forever. It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety, and even the geopolitical landscape.” she said in another recent video. “America is more divided today than ever before. It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech, as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband.”
