Conservative news star Megyn Kelly dropped a bombshell on the hearings of Health and Human Services nominee Robert F. Kennedy — and warned Republican voters that one U.S. senator may be the make or break point for RFK, Jr.’s ascention to health czar under President Donald Trump.
Kelly said Friday that Bill Cassidy’s support of Kennedy was critical, and called the Louisiana Republican’s office personally after he expressed doubts about confirmation.
“I personally called. It was actually very funny. They took the number down. The guy was like, ‘The Megyn Kelly?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, the Megyn Kelly,'” Kelly said on her SiriusXM show.
“He was like, ‘Do you live in Louisiana? I’m like, ‘No, but I have a loud mouth and I have a lot of listeners who do.'”
Cassidy, a physician, voiced unease on Thursday about some of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” plans and positions.
“They seemed to be laying traps for him with these little knowledge tests about obscure programs,” reported Megyn Kelly from the hearing. “It almost seemed like he was trying to embarrass him or maybe create a case for Republicans that Bobby is not qualified for this job.”
Kelly urged listeners to contact Cassidy’s office, dismissing vaccine concerns as settled policy.
“Forget all that stuff about the MMR vaccine, which will not be banned,” Kelly said. “Trump has said it will not be banned. Bobby has said it will not be banned. Bobby’s past work to ask questions about it is in the past. He’s not going to make this an issue.”
Political consequences loom for Republicans opposing Kennedy’s nomination, Kelly warned.
“Scott Pressler, who got all those Republicans registered in Pennsylvania, saying he will personally make sure anybody on the Republican side who doesn’t vote for Kennedy suffers electorally,” Kelly reported. “Donald Trump, Jr. has a whole wrangling group of money people who know how to scare these Republican senators.”
Kennedy needs near-unanimous Republican support for confirmation after contentious exchanges with Democratic senators, who have turned the hearing into a sideshow.
“They just want to inflame and throw arrows – mostly about him being a conspiracy theorist and anti-vaccine. That is really where they went with it,” Kelly said of Democratic questioning.
