California Governor Gavin Newsom was blasted by the mainstream media for an attempt to “rewrite history” on the radical progressive policies he has championed for years, CNN said — and they aired footage proof that the Democratic leader’s new political stances are fake.
During Thursday’s “OutFront” broadcast, host Erin Burnett bashed the dramatic shift in Newsom’s political positioning.
“What in God’s name is going on with Gavin Newsom?” she asked.
“There’s headline after headline asking that sort of question as the country is trying to figure out how he went from progressive hero and governor of the most liberal state in the country to interviewing and spending time with MAGA favorites like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk on his new podcast,” Burnett said.
The media is furious that Newsom says he no longer supports transgenders competing in women sports, transgenders in female prisons, or the use of gender-neutral terms like “Latinx.”
CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski showed video evidence contradicting two specific lies made by Newsom during his recent interview with conservative Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
In that interview, Newsom falsely claimed, “Not one person in my office has ever used the word Latinx” — the radical left’s attempt to make Spanish a gender-neutral language.
CNN found multiple clips of Newsom himself using the term “Latinx” between 2020 and 2023. The network also displayed four examples of the governor using the term on social media during the same period.
“You see there, that is a lot of use of ‘Latinx’ by him for somebody who said that nobody in his office has ever used that phrase,” Kaczynski noted.
When contacted by CNN, Newsom’s office attempted to backpedal and claimed, “Latinx is not a term that is regularly used by the administration.”
The segment also highlighted Newsom’s apparent attempt to distance himself from California’s policies on biological male transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
During his podcast with Kirk, Newsom lied: “It turns out in 2014, years before I was governor, there was a law established that established the legal principles that allow trans athletes in women’s sports. But the issue of fairness is completely legit. It is an issue of fairness, and I think Democrats have lost that.”
Newsom was serving as California’s lieutenant governor at the time the law was passed, and praised the bill.
“In that statement, he’s kind of making it sound like he wasn’t involved in this at all. He’s like, ‘Oh, it was 2014, years before I was governor.’ Like, you mean when you were the lieutenant governor? When you actively defended and praised that law?” Kaczynski said before playing a clip of Newsom praising the bill allowing transgendered males into female bathrooms and sports.
Newsom supported government-funded transgendered surgery for illegal immigrants and prisoners, and signed a bill allowing biological males to be held in female prisons.
Newsom “goes out, and he backs away from some unpopular progressive policies, even ones that he’s championed,” Burnett explained.
