Democrats haven’t even officially seized control over the House of Representatives yet, but they’re already consumed by infighting, back-stabbing, petty squabbles and outright threats.
And it’s not just Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in the crosshairs of the party’s radical wing.
Even one of the darlings of the liberal elite could be get sent packing!
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who never met a camera she couldn’t posture in front of, may find herself in hot water with the rising progressive/socialist wing of the party.
It’s not because of her constant and shameless self-promotion.
It’s not because she isn’t radical enough (she certainly is).
And it’s not because she doesn’t oppose President Donald Trump enough.
She’s so anti-Trump that if he cured cancer, she would argue for tumor rights!
It just might be that they’ve finally figured out the truth: She’s another elitist masquerading as a populist.
And that could lead to an embarrassing – and possibly career-ending – primary challenge from the rising socialist wing of the party, according to The Orange County Register.
Far-left darling and incoming freshman congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., won her own seat by challenging a longtime establishment Democratic incumbent in a primary.
Now, she is urging other young socialists to the do the same around the nation, attacking long-serving members via the primary, and has aligned herself with a group called Justice Democrats dedicated to doing just that.
“It’s time to usher in a new generation of diverse working class leaders into the Democratic Party,” the organization states on its website. “A Democratic Party that fights for its voters, not just corporate donors.”
Given that goal, the Register report notes that Waters “has little in common with her constituents.”
And she’s certainly not “working class.”
The wealthy longtime lawmaker lives in a $4.3 million mansion in a wealthy neighborhood outside her district, where the median household income of $56,655 is far below California’s $71,805 median.
She also represents a district that is 47 percent Latino, 31 percent foreign-born, and where 54 percent speak a language other than English at home, the report notes.
“If, as they claim, the Justice Democrats are looking to better match representatives with their constituents, they should primary Maxine Waters, and replace her with a much less wealthy, Spanish-speaking Latino candidate,” columnist John Phillips wrote.
Of course, there are other far more substantive reasons to challenge Waters beyond her elitist lifestyle.
In a rare show of bipartisanship, Democrats and Republicans alike agree she may be one of the most corrupt members of Congress, caught up in scandal after scandal.
Earlier this year, she was slammed for using campaign funds to pay her own daughter to send out political junk mail.
In 2011, the left-leaning Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington gave her one of the most dubious “honors” in the capital: They named her one of the nation’s most corrupt politicians.
“In the midst of a national financial catastrophe, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) used her position as a senior member of Congress and member of the House Financial Services Committee to prevail upon Treasury officials to meet with OneUnited Bank,” CREW said in a news release at the time. “She never disclosed that her husband held stock in the bank.”
Despite her own shady ethics, she’s had the nerve to attack Trump… over ethics.
You just can’t make this stuff up!
“When ethics groups of all political leanings agree that a particular member of Congress does not have the minimal ethics needed for the position, it is strange that that member parades as an advocate of ethics,” Ken Boehm, chairman of the conservative National Legal and Policy Center, told the Daily Beast last year. “That describes the current odd posturing of Maxine Waters.”
Maybe that “odd posturing” is finally catching up to her.
