Fans expressed worry for Mariah Carey after video footage from her Las Vegas residency showed the 55-year-old singer moving slowly across the stage during a recent performance.
The viral clip, which garnered over 5,000 comments on Instagram, shows Carey in a pink bodysuit and matching sheer dress following a backup dancer at what viewers described as a “snail’s pace.” During the sequence, the singer remains largely stationary while her dancer performs around her.
“Is she always in a lot of pain? Genuine question,” one commenter wrote, while another asked, “What’s going on here?! Is this a real performance or the dress rehearsal?”
Some fans defended Carey, suggesting her limited movement stemmed from her massive high heels.
“She was petrified to walk in those heels,” one supporter wrote, adding “Maybe it’s time for her to start wearing flats.”
The performance is part of Carey’s “Celebration of Mimi” residency at Las Vegas, commemorating her 2005 album “The Emancipation of Mimi.” The 24-show run began in April 2024 and concludes February 15.
“It’s a really good time,” Carey told Entertainment Tonight last August about the residency. “We’re doing the Celebration of Mimi and you know all about the Emancipation of Mimi and that album and there’s also other songs we do.”
The health concerns follow Carey’s December cancellation of a Pittsburgh Christmas show due to illness.
“Pittsburgh, I am sorry to say, I’ve come down with the flu,” Carey posted on X. “It breaks my heart that I unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. I love you all so much.”
Representatives for Carey have not responded to requests for comment about the Las Vegas performance.
