The man accused of assaulting actor Steve Buscemi on a Manhattan street has been held in jail on a $50,000 bond, according to prosecutors in New York.

The incident occurred on May 8 when Buscemi, well-known for his roles in TV shows like “Boardwalk Empire” and movies such as “Fargo,” was walking in Midtown and was allegedly punched in the face by a stranger.

Three days after releasing a photo of the suspect, police arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with the assault on Friday.

Buscemi’s publisher confirmed the attack and stated that the actor was treated at a hospital for injuries to his eye but was otherwise in stable condition.

The suspect was arraigned on Saturday, and the judge set his bail at $50,000. It remains unclear if the defendant has a lawyer who could speak on his behalf, and a phone message has been left with the local public defender’s office.

The accused is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint, the man allegedly punched two people during the incident, but authorities did not reveal their identities. The complaint also states that the attack on Buscemi was captured by surveillance video, providing evidence of the assault.

This is not the first time a “Boardwalk Empire” cast member has been attacked in New York City. In March, Buscemi’s co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was assaulted by a different stranger who allegedly hit him in the back of the neck with a rock while he was in Manhattan’s Central Park.

As the legal process unfolds, more details about the incident and the suspect’s motivations may come to light.  In the meantime, supporters of Buscemi are wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping that justice will be served in this troubling case.
