A Cincinnati man was arrested after he broke four windows at Vice President J.D. Vance’s home early Monday morning and damaged a Secret Service vehicle, according to police and federal officials.

William DeFoor, 26, was arrested shortly after midnight at Vance’s Ohio residence. Secret Service agents witnessed DeFoor walking onto the property and smashing windows with a hammer while attempting to force his way into Vance’s home, according to an arrest report.

“An adult male was taken into custody by the Cincinnati Police Department after being detained by U.S. Secret Service personnel for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the Vice President,” U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

DeFoor also vandalized a Secret Service vehicle on his way up the home’s driveway, law enforcement officials said.

Secret Service reported the incident tol Cincinnati police at 12:15 a.m. after seeing someone “running eastbound” from the property, a police dispatcher said. DeFoor was detained by Secret Service agents shortly after.

Vance and his family were in Washington, D.C., during the alleged attack, Vance’s press secretary Taylor Van Kirk said. The vice president had spent the past week in Cincinnati but left Sunday afternoon.

DeFoor faces charges of criminal damaging or endangering, obstructing official business, criminal trespass, and one count of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.

This is not DeFoor’s first brush with the law. In April, he pleaded guilty to two counts of vandalism after causing more than $2,000 in damages to an interior design company. DeFoor was sentenced to treatment at a mental health facility for two years and was required to pay $5,550 in restitution.

“The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed,” the agency said in its statement.
