Luke Combs has taken the lead in nominations for the upcoming 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, securing an impressive eight nods. For the fifth consecutive year, Combs is in the running for two big awards: male artist of the year and entertainer of the year.
The 59th annual ACM Awards will be held on May 16 at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Among Combs’ nominations is a first-time nod for Tracy Chapman, whose song “Fast Car” he covered. The song was nominated for song of the year, a category that acknowledges not only artists but also songwriters and publishers. Last year, Combs’ rendition of the 1988 hit won song of the year at the Country Music Awards (CMAs), making Chapman the first Black songwriter to win in that category.
Following closely behind Combs are Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen with six nominations each, while Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson tie with five nominations apiece. Jordan Davis and Jelly Roll have secured four nominations each.
This year marks Jelly Roll’s debut in the ACM nominations, with nods in categories such as entertainer of the year, male artist of the year, single of the year for “Need a Favor.” He also received a nomination for music event of the year, following his collaboration with Lainey Wilson on “Save Me.” He is the first musician to be nominated for entertainer of the year in his inaugural round of ACM nominations since Billy Ray Cyrus in 1992.
Morgan Wallen, who was declared ineligible by the ACMs in 2021 after being caught on camera using a racial slur, received four nominations in 2022 and 2023. He was arrested on Monday in Nashville for allegedly throwing a chair off a rooftop bar.
The 2024 ACM Awards will be streamed on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch Live on May 16 at 8 p.m. EDT, with a red carpet feed available on various Amazon platforms starting at 7 p.m. EDT.
